Sir, – Dog ownership levels seem higher than ever in my 5km walking area, which is lovely to see. But general training standards seem quite low. It is of note to see a dog walk to heel, come to a call, sit on command, and not bark mindlessly (these exceptions seem to be mainly working dogs like spaniels, pointers, setters, retrievers, German shepherds and sheepdogs).
These four basic obedience rules are simple to teach and the dog, the owner, and everyone else around will be happier if applied.
