Sir, Arising out of Andy Pollak's article (June 24th) contrasting the dirt of the Dublin streets with the cleanliness of those in Paris, I remember that when I was young in the 1930s the streets of Dublin were clean for the first time in anyone's memory, because a few years earlier, in the mid twenties I think, a French firm had been given the contract for cleansing them.

It is perhaps time to call the French in again, if not to do it, then at least to teach us how to do it? Yours, etc.,
