Sir, - Watching the DIRT hearings on TG4, I must confess I get a perverse feeling of pleasure seeing the boot on the other foot with so many bank managers squirming in their seats for a change. And the politicians who are asking all those probing questions have certainly gone up in my estimation.

I would be in favour of "naming and shaming". But, if that is going to prevent those people who are alleged to have cheated me and other PAYE taxpayers being brought to justice, then I'm prepared to wait until they come to trial.

I only hope that when this latest inquiry is over that justice is actually going to be done and the authorities are not going to procrastinate for so long that the results are swept under the carpet and forgotten when the next scandal erupts and the next committee of inquiry is set up. - Yours, etc.,

Brian Webb, Corballla, Ballina, Co Sligo.
