Sir, - The Trinity Librarian has accused his colleague in Canberra of being disingenuous yet blithely went on to describe damage to the Book of Kells as a "change in condition".

Both are at fault. No well-advised museum administrator would have asked for the Book of Kells in the first place and Trinity's decision to lend it puts a serious question mark over its stewardship of this unique treasure.

The Book of Kells should now return to Dublin and never travel again. - Yours, etc.,
