Sir, - As we rightly welcome the first batch of Kosovar refugees to our shores is it not also timely for us to ponder the plight of those other human beings in Yugoslavia whose lives are being blighted on a daily basis by NATO's relentless and punitive bombing? NATO's campaign has resulted in many "Omaghs" since it started almost two months ago, and NATO planes and missiles have laid waste to the Yugoslav infrastructure on a scale which is difficult to come to terms with, or to justify, given NATO's declared war aims.

The lives, property and livelihoods of ordinary innocent men, women and children throughout Serbia - people already suffering under the iron rule of Milosovic - have been destroyed in the NATO campaign, not to mention the lives of those Chinese diplomats and Kosovar refugees who were unfortunate enough to be numbered amongst NATO's "errors". And what is NATO's response? A promise to further intensify its campaign.

The dissident IRA had the good sense to stop its campaign after its first Omagh. How many more will it take before NATO sees the light? - Yours, etc., HARRY McCauley,
