Sir, - I am sickened by the hysterical reactions and begrudgery emanating from Cork following the upgrading of the W.R.T.C. to Institute of Technology.
The South East Region was identified as being educationally disadvantaged in the third level sector. Waterford has campaigned for many years for a university. The recent upgrading was regarded as a step in the right direction.
Students in the Cork region already have a choice between university or regional technical college. Again I will draw the analogy (expressed by me on Liveline recently) - it's like the spoiled child who has the bigger and better share but still covets what others get. - Yours, etc.,
Ashe Road, Kingsmeadow, Waterford.
