Climate change priority

Sir, – One wonders what planet Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan, for whom climate change legislation “is not a priority”, is living on (Front page, November 3rd)? Apparently not ours, which saw 20 per cent of Pakistan under water last year, Arctic summer ice disappearing at record rates, along with rising carbon dioxide levels that have brought global warming ever closer to an irreversible tipping point.

The question of what planet we think we’re living on might also be asked of us all, given that it would take a planet fives times the size of earth to sustain our shop-till-we-drop Western lifestyle and market-driven economy.

Earth to humanity, do you read me? – Yours, etc,
