Sir, – Frank McNally’s ancient recipe for “roasted butter” is not as strange as he thinks (An Irishman’s Diary, December 21st). The BBC reports that a Scottish pub is serving a sticky dessert, called “Braveheart Butter Bombs”, consisting of balls of butter dipped in batter soaked with Irn Bru, then deep fried in hot oil until browned.
With delicious understatement, the chef describes the dish as “not exactly health food”. – Yours, etc,
