Sir, - Frank McDonald's article (March 21st), has alerted many people to proposed extensive changes to Bray seafront. These are being advanced as "a major development of Bray esplanade to reinvigorate the area". This development would interpose massive apartment blocks ("up to six-storeys high") and a marina between the public promenade and the sea. The marina and apartments would almost certainly be available only to a wealthy elite who would now enjoy an exclusive view of Bray Head.
Bray esplanade is probably the finest of its kind on the east coast. It is totally open to the public, is easily accessible and is open to the sea along its mile-long length. For the increasingly crowded and frenetic hinterland of the Dublin area it provides an invaluable amenity. To deny this amenity to the public, in the manner proposed, would be an act of large-scale vandalism. - Yours, etc.,
M. J. O'Connell, Shanganagh Vale, Cabinteely, Dublin 18.
