Perhaps we can learn from the French? A major defining moment for them, a mere 223 years ago, is celebrated every year just two days after our own, on July 14th. However the comparison ends there. Their Bastille day is a joyful inclusive community event in which every one gets to participate, regardless of which side their forefathers were on.
Perhaps we can also learn from the Paris GAA. At a pub quiz in the centre of Paris the question was asked, “In what year did the Irish lose the Battle of the Boyne?” to which one happy Northern voice called out, “We didn’t!”. – Is mise,
