Sir, – As a customer of the Bank of Ireland since 1964, I was appalled to learn of the rise in the credit card interest rate (“Angry reaction to rise in credit card interest rate”, Business, December 19th).

The bank has also stopped issuing sterling drafts for amounts under £500. This means that “golden years” customers like myself must get our drafts for less than that sum at the Post Office, and pay the €4 extra each time. (We did not have to pay commission as older customers of the Bank of Ireland, thus saving €4).

Between this and the new household charge and threatened health insurance increases, Ireland has become a sad and hard place for older people to live. Shame on all concerned. – Yours, etc,
