Sir, - David Norris (June 7th) addresses a number of questions to me, which I feel entitled to respond to. Senator Norris seems to be as certain about my motives for my letter of May 29th and about my sexuality as he is about his own. Well, I could have some news for him in one of those areas, but my sexuality is my business.

However, Senator Norris chose to highlight an "alleged serious abuse" (his own words) of Egyptian homosexuals because he chose to represent uncorroborated homosexual lobby group allegations through his position of Senator.

I believe that political scientists refer to this kind of client relationship as the curse of Irish politics, and that is exactly what David Norris is engaging in.

I could be wrong, of course. Therefore, I look forward to the Senator's condemnation of the actual human rights abuses elsewhere in the Middle East that we read about in The Irish Times daily, so that we might give him the benefit of the doubt and further consider the value that the Seanad offers to those it is supposed to be accountable to. - Yours, etc.,
