Sir, - Unless I misread the piece ("Stillorgan's 'ageing population' could scupper pool plans"), there seems to be a suggestion that the decision on re-opening the Glenalbyn, Stillorgan swimming pool could be adversely affected by the results of a business case indicating that the number of people in the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown area is predicted to rise by almost 60 per cent over the next two decades. Might we next hear that the council will, for example, remove all park benches or books from libraries on the basis that a rising age profile could put pressure on the services over the coming decades?
Enough. The 50 shades of grey population (and rising) have long memories and will not tolerate daft policies. They will be in a position to wield the whip as and when the need arises. – Yours, etc, PATRICK JUDGE Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin.
