A tale of two Gerrys

Madam, – We are blessed with two outstanding musicians who bear the same name, but different instruments

Madam, – We are blessed with two outstanding musicians who bear the same name, but different instruments. Gerry O’Connor (.com) from Tipperary is a banjo player of unmatched virtuosity and creativity, while Gerry O’Connor (.net) from Dundalk is a fiddle player of the first rank with a sublime talent and feel for music.

What neither of these musical luminaries deserves, however, is to be conflated in an amalgam of image and text as occurred on your Arts page (November 13th), where a review of the inaugural Button Factory County Sessions, which highlighted Gerry “Banjo” O’Connor, was adorned with an image of Gerry “Fiddle” O’Connor.

Would it be too much to ask that you could tell your fiddles from your banjos? – Yours, etc,

PÁDRAIG Mac CÁRTHAIGH,

Bóthar na Laoi,

Corcaigh.
