A robin stamp for Christmas

Madam, – An Post has a unique connection with the “New Ireland” through delivering to 2.1 million addresses daily and serving 1.7 million post office customers every week. This year’s selection of Christmas stamps provides real choice for customers (December 11th). Each of the 26 stamps (for the price of 25) in the Christmas booklet does indeed show a festive “European Robin”. The booklets are in addition to two traditional stamps (55c and 82c) on which the magnificent stained glass windows of two Co Roscommon churches – St Brigid’s in Dangan (The Nativity) and the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Aughrim (The Annunciation) – are featured.

Also, recent investment in new stamp-printing technology for post offices enables us to print a stamp, on the spot, to the specific value required for sending a customer’s particular card, letter or packet. Stamps generated by this process will feature either the “Annunciation” or “Nativity” illustrations in the run-up to Christmas – there are just eight posting days left! May I sign off with a reminder that when it comes to sending mail, correct postage and addressing is the “denomination” that counts! – Yours, etc,
