Sir, – In her hilarious Irishwoman’s Diary (July 28th), Alison Healy could have found some examples of amusing mondegreens closer to home. Take for instance that most emotional of Kilkenny ballads The Rose of Mooncoin, and its swelling depiction of that village “where the lark and the robin their sweet notes entwine”. For years, those of us from Tipperary at least intoned, “where the lark ate the robin and three balls of twine”. All allegations of attempting to mock the Cats are denied.
