A chara, – My sincere thanks to Oonagh Charleton for her brave and eloquent piece (“The story of a tiny, personal tragedy”, HEALTHplus, January 16th).
She voiced so beautifully the thoughts of so many women unfortunate enough to have suffered the devastation of miscarriage. It was a difficult article to read, simply because of the maelstrom of emotion it uncovered from a similar experience many life times ago but which is still in my thoughts. It is so important that we discuss these tiny, personal tragedies and the desolation experienced by many women and couples as a result.
Too often, well-meaning friends and family seek to console mothers with reassurances that it was simply “nature’s way” of remedying something wrong or that they will conceive again, without realising that all they need is the time to grieve the loss of another human being who briefly entered their lives and then left.
It’s good to talk, after all. – Is mise,
