Sir, – Your excellent radio reviewer, Mick Heaney, notes in “Radio moment of the week” (Weekend Review, March 31st) that The Irish Times is a family newspaper and therefore cannot reprint a vernacular term that closely resembles “blow dry”.

This commendable principle seems to have been gleefully ignored by Keith Ridgway in his review of Dark Lies the Island by Kevin Barry (on page 11) when he writes: “He dances a very sexy dance with cliche. And he seduces it, takes it home and f***s it senseless, and we get to see it with its legs in the air, and it doesn’t look much like cliche any more”. Sometimes the Weekend Review leaves me breathless and in need of a long, cold shower. – Yours, etc,
