Sir, – I regularly read and enjoy your weekly series “New to the Parish”, which is entertaining and informative. The experiences of those interviewed are almost invariably positive, and I wonder is this representative of the entire migrant experience. I realise we are noted for our welcome and hospitality; however, it would be interesting to read about the more negative experiences of those who choose to come to our land. I am thinking of the bureaucracy, casual or targeted racism, difficulties with accommodation, workplace experiences and so forth. To catalogue these occurrences might be more helpful to us in how we formulate and manage our policies towards the migrant question. In the light of recent events, it might also be more honest and realistic. – Yours, etc,
