Sir, - Orla Kennedy (June 1st) finds it surprising that there is no children's museum nor any equivalent to the Odyssey here in the Republic. Well, I don't find it surprising at all. Since I have returned to Ireland with a young son from many years travelling and living abroad I have discovered that Ireland is probably one of the least child-friendly countries I have encountered.
This came as a shock as, when childless, I had not really paid much attention to such matters. Childcare and child-orientated infrastructure in this country is practically non-existent. All that is ever paid to children's issues in this country is lip-service. - Yours, etc.,
Shane Montague Gallagher, Cloverhill, Bray, Co Wicklow.
