Sir, - In your editorial (The Irish Times, May 11th) you point to the Minister of Justice's confrontational approach to the refugee scenario.

Surely a civilized society would not operate on the premise that you treat your grandmother equally as harshly as everybody else, but that you treat everybody else as compassionately as you would your grandmother.

John O'Donoghue's face is not the one we want to show to the world. He has latched on to the word "illegal", like a mantra, as if we give a damn when it suits us!
