The Teachers' Union of Ireland has expressed disappointment that a long-delayed adjudication board has not recommended the recognition of Youthreach staff as teachers, or given them permanent jobs.

Youthreach co-ordinators earn £17,000 with no increments and have a yearly contract.

The adjudication board has recommended a salary increase for co-ordinators and Youth reach centre resource staff, an annual £1,500 allowance for graduates, and lower amounts for those with certain other qualifications, as well as contracts for a minimum of two years.
