June 19th – European Council approves Lisbon Treaty guarantees for Ireland and agrees to enshrine them in a protocol to a future treaty, reaffirms its decision to retain one commissioner per member state.
June 21st – Launch in Dublin of civic campaign for Lisbon Treaty led by former European Parliament president Pat Cox and UCD professor Bridget Laffan.
Next week – publication of details of referendum Bill establishing commission and setting out text for referendum. Incoming Swedish presidency will begin consultations with leaders of European Parliament groups on ratification of Commission president José Manuel Barroso forsecond term.
June 30th – German Constitutional Court to rule on Lisbon Treaty. German ratification likely to follow quickly.
July 10th– Expected Dáil recess. Government will expect to have passed referendum Bill.
July 14th-15th– First meeting of new European Parliament in Strasbourg. Expected to ratify Barroso as president for a second term.
July-August– Member states begin informal contacts with Barroso over their nominees for new European Commission.
End August– Formal launch of Lisbon II referendum campaign expected.
October 2nd– Likely date for the Irish Lisbon II referendum.
October– Ratification expected by last remaining states, Ireland, Poland, and Czech Republic (President Václav Klaus has suggested they may also need to repeat a parliamentary vote).
November– Following final ratification, formal nominations by member states of their new commissioners and the start of parliamentary hearings on the new nominees.
Negotiations will get under way between member states on new posts of president of the council and high representative for foreign affairs.
