Over 600 CRH workers have deferred today's strike to allow for Labour Court intervention into their claim for improved profit-sharing and pension arrangements, Padraig Yeates reports. CRH is the largest building materials supplier in the State and if the strike had gone ahead it could have caused serious disruption for the construction industry.

Their shop stewards called off the strike after an appeal from SIPTU vice-president Mr Jack O'Connor. Branch secretary Mr Christy Cullen said yesterday the Labour Court had given a commitment to hear the case on Monday and to issue its hearings by Friday.
