A 40-year-old mother of five has been sentenced to three years' imprisonment with two years suspended for causing the deaths of a mother and daughter in a car accident. The accident happened on the northern bypass in Killarney, Co Kerry, last June.

The convicted woman was disqualified from driving for 15 years.

Tralee Circuit Court heard conditions were perfect for driving on the straight wide road when the car driven by Breda O'Donoghue, Killaha East, Kenmare, ploughed into a Mazda on the opposite side of the road.

The Mazda car, driven by Mary Fleming (45) in which her daughter, Marguerite Fleming (13) was a passenger was driven onto the hard shoulder. Both were killed.
