A 21 year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a serious assault in which a woman had part of her nose bitten off in Dublin city centre last weekend.

The assault happened at Burgh Quay outside near Tara Street train station in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 22-year-old victim was put in a headlock and struggled, with one of her attackers punching her at least once before she had part of her nostril bitten off. She underwent surgery on Wednesday.

Gardaí said statements were taken from the injured woman and a number of other witnesses after the attack was reported on Sunday. CCTV footage was also recovered.

Gardaí subsequently issued descriptions of two women they said they wished to interview in connection with the incident.
