Speculation is rife around Creeslough, Co Donegal, as to who may have bought the winning weekend Lotto ticket in Lafferty's supermarket in the town.

The winning €4,591,851 ticket was bought on Saturday. Shop owner Danny Lafferty was unable to shed any light on the identity.

"We get quite a bit of passing trade in the shop so it could even be someone from outside the area, but I'm hoping that it's someone local," he said.

Mr Lafferty received a telephone call from the National Lottery at 11pm on Saturday.

"I was attending my aunt's 90th birthday party in Ballycastle, Co Antrim, when the National Lottery made contact with me. I'm absolutely delighted.

"I knew it wasn't me as I couldn't be that lucky.

"My immediate reaction was one of complete and utter shock. I never, ever thought that we would sell the winning ticket, which is quite a feat in itself."

"While I don't know who bought the ticket, I've a few ideas, but I'm not telling you," Mr Lafferty added.

"I always said that I would love to sell a jackpot-winning ticket. All I need now is for St Michael's GAA club to win the county title and I'll die a happy man."

Selling the winning ticket also results in a financial reward for the agent.

A spokeswoman for the National Lottery confirmed yesterday that a winner had not yet come forward to claim the prize. The winning numbers were 1, 5, 13, 19, 36, 42 (bonus 24).
