SNOW AND ice will be replaced by heavy rain and the risk of flooding in the south, southwest and southeast today, according to Met Éireann. There is also a risk of snow and sleet in the centre and north of the country for another two to three days.

Forecaster Gerald Fleming said a very significant weather system was approaching which could bring significant rain to Kerry, Cork, Wexford and Waterford. The weather system could bring between 30mm and 50mm of rain.

Met Éireann issued warnings to local authorities in Kerry, Cork, Waterford and Wexford yesterday, and said it would be providing regular updates.

Leinster and Connacht can also expect wet and windy conditions today, with rain turning to sleet or snow in places.

Conditions will be almost balmy on Friday when compared with recent weeks, with temperatures of up to 10 degrees expected.
