Waterford teenager stabbed on bus

A teenager in Waterford has received stab injuries to his shoulder, leg and hand while on a bus in the city.

The attack occurred at about 4pm on Monday as a Bus Éireann bus stopped to pick up passengers near Parnell Street. As people boarded the bus, a fight broke out involving a number of men on the back seat, leaving the teenager with several stab wounds. His attackers jumped from the bus and fled.

He made his way to Waterford Garda station in nearby Ballybricken before being brought to Waterford Regional Hospital.

His injuries are "serious but not life-threatening".

Two people were detained for questioning at Waterford Garda station under section 3 of the Criminal Justice Act early yesterday morning. They were released without charge pending a file for the DPP.

Gardaí were also investigating another stabbing incident in the city. A man, believed to be in his early 30s, was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital on Monday following an incident in a hostel on the quay in Waterford. His condition is not believed to be serious.

A man in his mid-20s appeared before a special sitting of Waterford District Court yesterday.
