The dispute by ward attendants at six psychiatric and geriatric units and one acute hospital has been postponed indefinitely after talks at the Labour Court this morning.

SIPTU spokesman Mr Ramond O'Reilly said the union had received assurances that the ward attendants' claim for an 8 per cent pay increase would be fully addressed.

Mr O'Reilly said the union was satisfied the issue would be dealt with in what is known as a profiling process, which is due to report in the next few months. He said the Labour Court had offered to make itself available to the parties if any issues remained to be dealt with at the end of the process.

The dispute centred on the issue of bringing ward attendants pay to the same level as those working in the Dublin Teaching Hospitals.
