Wall Street fell at the opening bell today, with the Dow Jones index falling 42.78 points, or 0.51 per cent, to 8,270.35.
The Standard and Poor's 500 index eased 3.65 points, or 0.42 per cent, to 860.60. The Nasdaq index dropped 7.47 points, or 0.60 per cent, to 1,240.45.
Investors' nerves have been jangled by figures last week indicating the economic recovery may be in jeopardy.
