Manchester United star Juan Sebastian Veron has dampened down speculation he is unhappy at Old Trafford and said Alex Ferguson's retirement u-turn had prompted several top players to stay.

The Argentinian midfielder had been linked with a return to Lazio after joining United from the Serie A outfit in a 28 million pound deal in the summer.

However, Veron told the News of the World: "I have never said I want to leave Manchester United and the same remains true.

"I am enjoying my time in England. I am at a fabulous club who have aspirations of winning the Champions League.

"The Champions League is like the World Cup - when you win it once you want to do it over and over again.

"I now want to win the Champions League with United. The players here are aware we have a great chance of doing well in the competition this season and I am determined to be a winner in the competition."
