Manchester United are set to complete the signing of striker Ruud van Nistelrooy from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven for £18 million pounds, British newspapers reported this morning.

The English champions agreed to buy Van Nistelrooy for 18.5 million pounds 12 months ago, but the transfer collapsed when the Dutch international suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury which ruled him out of action for 10 months.

"We are in talks and expect to have the deal done this weekend," PSV president Harry van Raay was quoted as saying in today's Sun newspaper.

Although Manchester United clinched their seventh premier league title in nine years last week, they were knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich on Wednesday, the second straight year they have failed to get beyond the quarterfinals.
