Two RUC officers were hurt when trouble erupted briefly at a north Belfast sectarian flashpoint today.

Two RUC officers were hurt when trouble erupted briefly at a north Belfast sectarian flashpoint today.

The disturbances flared in the Limestone Road area, scene of numerous clashes between Catholics and Protestants over the years.

An RUC spokeswoman said the confrontation involved around 50 on each side and lasted half an hour. She said: "Just before 1 p.m. it was reported to us. It was brought under control before 1.30 p.m. Police and army will remain in the area."

One police officer suffered a face injury. The other had leg injuries.
