Two Irish people have been killed in a traffic accident which left four people dead in Liverpool, it was confirmed yesterday.

The man and woman, aged 59 and 57, had not yet been named but are understood to have been from Rathfarnham in Dublin.

Two other women in their 60s, from Liverpool, also died in the accident on Wednesday night. The four who died were travelling in a Vauxhall Corsa when it collided with a Ford Fiesta just before 7.30 p.m. in the city centre. The 20-year-old driver of the other vehicle involved survived, as did the 71-year-old driver of the Corsa.
