Two men have been charged with the murder of a man in  Ashbourne, Co Meath on St Stephen's Day, 2007.

Barry Maguire (23) from Deerpark Estate in Ashbourne, died after being stabbed.

Two men appeared before Trim District Court charged with his murder and also with assaulting another man on the same night.

Derek Hutch (24), from at Chapel Farm Avenue, Lusk, Co Dublin and Alan Donohue (26) of Ashdale Crescent, Ashbourne, Co Meath were charged with the murder of Mr Maguire at Milltown Estate.

Both were also charged with intentionally or wrecklessly causing serious harm to Damien Carty at the same place and time.

Detective Garda Michael English told the court that both men were arrested this morning and taken to Ashbourne Garda station. Neither made any reply to either charge, the court heard.

Garda Superintendent Charlie Devine said the State was seeking to have the accused men remanded in custody for one week.

A solicitor said that due to the nature of the charges, no bail application was being made for Mr Hutch and he was consenting to the State application.

Both men were granted legal aid and remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court next Thursday.
