Two men have appeared before Limerick District Court charged with the murder of a 43-year-old schoolteacher, who died after a vicious assault in September.

A native of Ballingarry in Co Limerick, Mr Noel Carmody died at Limerick Regional Hospital after an early-morning assault at Arthur's Quay Park in the city.

Mr Carmody had moved into Limerick city centre in recent years. He had worked as a school teacher but was not working in that role at the time of his death. He is survived by a brother and a sister.

Mr Jonathan Tuohy, (19), of Edward Street, Limerick and Mr Darren Wallace, (20), of Asumpta Park, Lee Estate Limerick were today charged with his murder.
