Khobar - The trial of two British nurses, Ms Deborah Parry and Ms Lucille McLauchlan, charged with murder in Saudi Arabia resumed yesterday and adjourned after an hour until August 10th. Ms Parry (38) and Ms McLauchlan (31), were not in court.

The nurses are accused of murdering Yvonne Gilford, an Australian colleague, at the King Fahd military medical complex where all three worked. They deny the charges.

The British consul, Mr Lawson Ross, attended the hearing but journalists have been barred from the trial, which began in May. An Australian diplomat was also present.

Ms Gilford (55), was found stabbed 13 times, bludgeoned and suffocated in her room at the medical complex in the oil city of Dhahran. Saudi newspapers had speculated before yesterday's court session, the first in three weeks, that it could be the last and that a verdict would be handed down.
