Alan Betson, of The Irish Times, has been named Photographer of the Year in the annual Slattery's Camera Circle awards, announced yesterday. The Newspaper Award went to The Irish Times.
The awards, which are now in their 36th year, highlight the 100 best press pictures of the year. They go on exhibition in Dublin in July.
The judging panel was chaired by Mr Donal Slattery and included Mr Pat Maxwell and Mr Eamonn Gilligan. The prizes were presented in Dublin last night by Eamon Dunphy, the broadcaster and writer.
