Security is tight for the Queen Mother's 101st birthday celebrations in London in the wake of the Ealing bomb.

Thursday night's car bomb explosion at Ealing, west London, has heightened fears that dissident republicans may try to disrupt the ceremony.

The blast near a pub about 100 metres from the tube and railway station injured seven people.

On July 19 last year an explosive device was left on the tube line at Ealing Broadway on the day of the Queen Mother's centenary pageant.

It was made safe by explosives experts and no-one was hurt but it sparked a series of alerts across central London and caused traffic chaos.
