Several thousand people to attended a protest in Sligo today over cancer services in the north west.

The protestors called for the reversal of a decision by the HSE to transfer breast cancer services from Sligo General Hospital as part of its National Cancer Strategy

They are also angered by the fact the region will not get a centre of excellence under the plan. Centres are to be established in Dublin, Waterford, Cork, Limerick and Galway.

A protest outside Sligo hospital last month was attended by 3,000 people.

Today's protest saw thousands of marchers from across Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal and Roscommon walk through Sligo city. The event ended with a concert in O'Connell Street.
