Before playing Satan in the current release End of Days, Gabriel Byrne (above) played a Vatican priest in the hi-tech contemporary horror movie, Stigmata, which opens here next Friday.
His character, Fr Andrew Kernan, is sent to the US to investigate the case of an agnostic Pittsburgh hairdresser (played by Patricia Arquette) who cannot understand what is causing shocking wounds to her hands and body.
The film also features Jonathan Pryce as the cardinal who assigns him the case, with Nia Long, Rade Sherbedgia and Portia de Rossi.
The director is Rupert Wainwright, a graduate of Oxford University.
