Miss Candy enters the gents in a mini-skirt, a wig, black platform shoes and a ton of make-up. Some 20 minutes later Joe Sutton, from outside Bray in Co Wicklow, emerges a changed man, you might say. He joins his sister, Rachel, and Warren Meyler, manager of the cabaret show in which he features every Thursday at Dublin's HQ Hall of Fame in Middle Abbey Street.
Other interesting guests spotted at the Dublin Docklands Festival were Finn Carragher (3) from Whiteabbey, Co Antrim, and Sean and Liam Farrell (3) from Naas, Co Kildare. Jacob Gilroy (4) from Ranelagh, Dublin, was with a rather fickle date, advertising executive Clare Connaughton from Mount Merrion, who was hoping to make a favourable impression on racing icon Eddie Irvine who was arriving later. Women!
One part of the festival, the Red Bull Flugtag flying competition, attracted plenty of interesting individuals - among them TV presenter Elo (that's his full name, according to his passport, which On The Town demanded to see) and Londoner Paul Davis, head special effects artist with the Dreamworks film production company, who is on his first visit to Dublin. The night before in Lillie's Bordello had been "an experience", he said. "The girls are very forward," he explained, adding: "It was cool".
