Mr Colin Martin, the Irish-man charged with the murder of a New Zealand ship captain in Thailand, is awaiting trial after taking part in a police re-enactment of the crime. Mr Martin (36), with an address at Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, is said to have confessed to the killing of Mr Brett Holdsworth on Tuesday.

Mr Holdsworth's body was found on Monday with five stab wounds, on the side of a highway near Pattaya, a sea-side resort. Police are looking for five Thai accomplices, a spokesman said.

Mr Martin allegedly killed Mr Holdsworth as a threat to a man from whom he was attempting to extract the return of defrauded money. An arrest warrant has been issued for the man on fraud charges.
