Amman - Twenty-eight suspects linked to alleged terrorist Osama bin Laden have been charged on 11 counts of plotting attacks in Jordan and will face a public trial soon and possible death sentences, a judicial official said yesterday.

Fourteen were arrested in December, including a Jordanian who also holds US nationality, Mr Khalil Deek, who was extradited to Amman from Pakistan. Mr Deek, however, faces "separate charges in another case" and was visited in prison by a representative of the United States embassy in Jordan and a US lawyer, the official said.

According to a report in Newsweek last month, the FBI says a CD-ROM seized from his home contained bomb-making instructions.
