Customs officers seized €270,000 in cash in Dublin airport yesterday.

Revenue has secured a three-month detention order for the money under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

The cash was found when officers searched the hand luggage of a 30-year-old Irish national who was about to leave on a flight to London yesterday afternoon.

"This morning Officers applied for, and were granted a three-month detention order by Justice William Early in the District Court to carry out further investigations," Reveunue said in a statement.

Customs officials believe the cash was being exported to fund the purchase and importation of a large consignment of drugs. A total of €597,105 has been seized by Revenue's Customs Service so far in 2008.
