A taped confession of a 17-year-old student, who has admitted beating his 18-year-old sister to death with a cricket bat in their family home, was played during a murder trial in Coleraine Court yesterday. Bryn Boothby has admitted the manslaughter of his sister, Tara, in their home at Fortsandal Avenue on May 19th last, but denies murder.

During the interview the accused man said that he and his sister, whom he loved very much, had argued over her plans to quit her school examinations. "I really didn't know what to say when she said that", he told the detectives.

The accused man said that after several rows with his sister he left the living room and went to his bedroom, where he kept the cricket bat. "I took the bat and walked into the room", he said. "She was sitting and giving off again. I hit her on the head once. She threw forward and she came back again. I hit her again, because I didn't know. I cannot remember anything."

The trial continues.
