Two paintings stolen from Russborough House, Blessington, including the Portrait of Madame Bacelliby Gainsborough, valued at €2.6 million, have been recovered by gardaí.

The other painting that was recovered in south Dublin today was the View of Florenceby Bernardo Bellotto. The paintings have been moved to National Gallery for examination although a preliminary view is that they are in good condition.

One man has been before the courts in connection with the investigation and a number of files are with the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The paintings were stolen on Tuesday June 26th, 2001, by a gang. This was the third time the Portrait of Madame Bacellihad been stolen from the house in 1974 and in 1986.
