A smell of smoke on board a Ryanair flight from Dublin to Gatwick yesterday necessitated the airport's emergency fire services being put in place as the plane landed, passengers reported.

The airport's duty manager, Mr Stephen Gargaro, confirmed that the emergency fire services were in position when the 3.20 Flight FR116 from Dublin arrived.

Ryanair subsequently confirmed that "there was an electrical problem on board FR116" on approaching Gatwick Airport. "The aircraft made a routine landing and passengers disembarked normally," a company official said.
