Norwegian may have captured first footage of meteorite falling after it had stopped burning

Skydiver Anders Helstrup has posted a video of his near miss with a possible meteorite that fell just metres from his parachute.

Although many people believe it could be an April Fool’s joke, it has been reported by news outlets around the world.

Mr Helstrup, who is part of the Oslo Parachute Club, leapt from a plane wearing a wing suit over Hedmark, south east Norway, in 2012.

If the event does prove to be true, it would be the very first time a meteorite in “dark flight”, the time during its fall after it stops glowing, has been witnessed or recorded on video.

‘I got the feeling that there was something, but I didn’t register what was happening,’ Mr Helstrup told Norwegian national television NKR.

He said it was only after he looked at the footage from his helmet camera he realised what had happened.
